It’s time for #photoshopfriday…ish

Ok, this is a ‘hands up’… I have to admit to not having a Photoshop Tip / Tutorial for you this week. However, this isn’t because I flat out don’t have one, it’s because this past week has been really busy with shoots virtually every day and I simply haven’t had time to put one together. So rather than this being #photoshopfriday, I’m calling this #photoshopfriday…ish:)

However to make up for it, I thought I’d give you a sneak peak at what I’m going to be covering next week as we edit a shot from my recent Album/CD Shoot with ‘The Debonaires’ from start (straight out of camera) to finish.

Now, this is where I need your help…
Below, I’ve attached a couple of the photographs showing their ‘Before’ and ‘After’ stages but I’m undecided which one I should work on next week.

As you can see, the space we had to shoot in was quite restricted and as I mentioned in an earlier post, trying to find an area of clear sky in the location we had was near enough impossible. So, throughout the editing process I’m going to cover such things as:

  • Cloning / Removing unwanted ‘bits n’ pieces’
  • Adding contrast
  • Dodging / Burning
  • Enhancing detail

Plus a couple of other little techniques that I use too.

So, my question is…which of the two pictures should I work on next week…A or B?
Feel free to use the comments section below or message me through Twitter or Facebook and then next week, I’ll be going through the entire editing process.

Have a great weekend:)

Dan Davies - I like the greater drama & contrast (visible on the tyre) of the first image, so I’d like to see you go with that.

Keith - BBBBBBB because there is more “bits” for you to remove, looks like the back end of your car on the right :-)
I think you need to remove the red sticker from the windscreen, sorry i’m picky
Did you change position of the car or your shooting angle as in A you can see bushes throught the windscreen but not in B, or was it more removal

graham blouin - I like A. There is more car and the guy on the right in B seems rather “disconnected” by staring off in a direction that the others were not.

June 18, 2010 - 10:10 am

graham blouin - I like A for two reasons. 1. there is more car and 2. the guy on the right in B is “distracted” and not looking in the direction of the other two.

Ed Harris - ooh I think B Glyn. Its a bit like spot the difference!!! I personally think less cloud is better.

June 18, 2010 - 4:23 pm

Neal - I think A mate, the other has too much sky to look at and it sort of draws your eyes away from the boys and the car :-)

June 18, 2010 - 4:42 pm

Rick Wenner - I’d say go with B. You can see more detail in that photo and it has, pretty much, the same things going on as A. Looking forward to next week’s post Glyn. Have a great weekend buddy.

kelley - Oh, I say B also. I want to see you repair all the clouds after the “bits” removal. I’m also all about the guy on the right going of into a different direction. Just enough cloud and people to keep the eye moving around the frame, which actually happens for me in both images.

David Kelly - Glyn,

For the same reasons as Mr Hammond and others say, I would like to see you work on B next week. It looks the more challenging but then maybe you did the work on CS5 and it became easier with the new content aware fill capabilities?

Have a great weekend mate!

A.J. Wood - My vote is B as I’d like to see that blown up really big for all the car detail.

June 19, 2010 - 1:00 pm

Glyn - @Dan…Cheers

June 19, 2010 - 1:02 pm

Glyn - @Neal…Cheers Buddy. FYI the final image for the front cover with be cropped 1×1 so there won’t be so much sky in it; thanks for letting me know which one you’d prefer to see edited from start to finish.

All the best,
Glyn

Glyn - @Rick…Cheers Rick; I think ‘B’ is the most requested one now.

Glyn

Glyn - @kelley…Looks like ‘B’ it is then :)
Cheers

June 19, 2010 - 1:20 pm

Glyn - @David Kelley…Ok so ‘B’ it is then :) Workflow time was definitely shortened considerably thanks to the Content Aware Fill in CS5; now that I’ve found my best way to use it effectively anyway :)
Cheers,
Glyn

Glyn - @A.J…Now that’s given me the idea of getting it blown up and on the wall. Thanks for ‘voting’ mate; looks like ‘B’ it is.

All the best to you,
Glyn

Noel Hannan - Hi Glyn,
bit of a late comment, but for what its worth I think I might have gone for …. A. However, regardless, they are both great images that I would have been delighted to have taken.

Good luck with the wedding shoot, and we must grab a coffee soon.

All the best

Noel

Glyn - @Noel…Thanks for your comment buddy and for the kind words.
Coffee sounds like a plan so hopefully catch up soon.
