We’re back and running…

Hi Everyone,

Last week I headed off with my wife Anne for what felt like a much needed bit of R&R down in sunny Dorset.

Staying on a working farm in a little village called Musbury on the outskirts of Axminster we had a wonderful week of sea fishing, visiting friends, house/location hunting and plenty of good eating.

Being away for some 10 days I had all the best intentions of getting out and doing a little bit of ‘shooting’ but if I’m honest I didn’t get the camera out of it’s bag once; cue the sharp intakes of breath:)… I did however do a little bit of shooting every day with my iPhone which I really enjoyed and which also helped to keep me ‘in the zone’ but more as a way of documenting our time away.

As someone who likes to keep up a regular blogging schedule I did have reservations about taking 10 days out for a couple of reasons…

  1. Not being sure if I’d have any finger nails left from biting them away with the anxiety
  2. Ok maybe a little paranoid about with this one but being a regular 3x weekly blogger and then going quiet can be a bit of a clue that maybe you’re away. However, thanks to WordPress there’s the facility to schedule posts to be published at future dates and times so no need to worry:)

Anyway here’s just a few shots that I took with my trusty iPhone; all of which were edited ‘in phone’ using a couple of Apps: Best Camera and Adobe Photoshop Express:

Eating out costs were kept down thanks to a bit of nimble rod work:)

How can you possibly tire of views like this???

Staying on a Working Farm in Musbury; fresh air, peace & quiet and surrounded by animals…bliss!

Catching up with great friends Sean & Ashley (top left) and Anne with Author & Foraging Expert John Wright of River Cottage…

So, now we’re back and fully recharged and focused it’s time to hit the ground running; lots to do…

Enjoy:)

Neil Holmes - Hi Glyn, did exactly the same think myself a couple of weeks ago while on holiday, I love the iPhone camera, will be doing the same again at the end of the month when I go to the Munich beer festival.

On the subject of WordPress, talking to a web designer friend last week about a site integration he asked me if I back up the blog’s server ‘database’ (the answer was no, and a blank look). Its easy to do with a plug in called ‘WordPress Database Backup’

Even Photographer/Bloggers need a holiday!

Cheers Neil

David Kelly - Morning Glyn,

Glad to hear you & Anne had a nice break - thankfully the weather held up for you. Nice series of panels here - I guess you got that fishing fix you talked about on Kelley’s blog.

I’m still getting used to the iphone camera after getting a 4G in the past few weeks. There’s definitely an abundance of camera / post-processing apps out there but one I quite like is ProCamera camera app, as it allows you to set the focal point & exposure independently via the touchscreen.

All the best,

David

Keith Hammond - Anne & Glyn, look at the two of you so happy, your already there mate arn’t you. The holiday captured in a few sets of pics, very nice. The bottom left pic of Anne, i would have used a little bit of OICF (off iphone camera flash) you have got the new iPhone assesory flash haven’t you ? ;-) I know what you mean about having a camera break, i don’t take the big gear anywhere now unless it was to be a “one of trip”, it’s the G9 and iPhone all the time now, so much lighter and you have to get a bit more creative. Lyn & Nic were asking after you Anne. Catch up soon i hope.

Glyn - @Neil…Yeah gotta love the iPhone camera for it’s portability :)
Re the WordPress back up I generally do a manual backup using an FTP program to copy all the files online to a HD here as well as the regular weekly emailed backups; can never be too careful huh :)

Cheers,
Glyn

Glyn - @David…Yeah we had superb weather whilst away; bright sun all the time :)
The fishing fix was well and truly catered for thanks to making friends with a local fisherman and Restauranteur who took us out for nothing :)

Re the iPhone there’s so many Apps to choose from but I do tend to find that now I’m sticking to Best Camera, Adobe PS Express and Photogene but the list could go on and on if I’m not careful.

Cheers,
Glyn

Glyn - @Keith…Great to hear from you mate.
Yeah we had a fantastic time away and rest assured plenty of house and location hunting was done too with another trip planned in October.
Re the iPhone can’t say I’ve seen the ‘off camera flash’ attachment…must keep an eye out for that one…lol :)

Anne says hi by the way; must look to arranging a meet in the not too distant future.

Cheers,
Glyn

ps> How you getting on with the fotosf software I think I saw you’d purchased?

September 6, 2010 - 8:04 pm

Keith Hammond - loving fotosf, still running my spreadsheet system as well untill i’ve got all my data uploaded and got used to it. well worth the £60 it’s going to make office boys life so much easier. They have a 7 day trial free. A good support setup as well and thats as important as the programe i think.
Yes we do need to sort a meet.

September 6, 2010 - 8:08 pm

Glyn - Keith…did you say £60??? What product did you get and are you able to send a link over? Ta Muchly :)

kelley - Glyn,
It looks like a wonderful time . I really loved the first set of images. I also really like the shot of Anne at the red door. It looks like an image right out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

I’m happy to see you were able to get in some fishing!

PS great editing of the iPhone pics!

regards, Kelley
