My iTunes Podcast #FF (Follow Friday)

Well the weekend is nearly upon us which can only mean one thing…it’s time for Follow Friday.

This time rather than sharing my Twitter or YouTube recommendations I’m changing it up again so this week it’s iTunes Podcast #FF (Follow Friday).

I’m a HUGE iTunes fan and use it a lot not just for downloading and playing music but for subscribing to a number of video podcasts and watching them during some quiet time such as on the train using my iPhone or maybe at home on the television using my Apple TV.

Photoshop User TV:
A weekly show produced by the NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) and hosted by Scott Kelby, Matt Kloskowski and Dave Cross aka the Photoshop Guys. Covering a whole spectrum of topics and tutorials Photoshop and Photography related plus Special Guests, it’s a great mix of humour and teaching making this a ‘must’ watch if you’re wanting to keep up to date.

D-Town TV:
Hosted by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski of the NAPP this video podcast first started out as Nikon D-Town TV covering everything Nikon DSLR related. The second season saw the name change to D-Town so now the guys cover ‘all’ things digital photography. A great resource of tips and tricks plus special guest features and a recommended inspirational website to check out at the end, this has quickly become a very popular podcast but no surprise when you check out all the previous episodes which are freely available to download through iTunes.

Lightroom Killer Tips:
An authority in Lightroom, Matt Kloskowski’s ‘Lightroom Killer tips’ video podcast has been a regular ‘must watch’ for some time. Although the podcast isn’t added to on a regular weekly basis, accompanying his Lightroom Killer Tips blog makes it a great resource for anyone using Lightroom and wanting to use it to it fullest.

Over the next couple of weeks I’ll share a few more of my recommended video podcasts but in the mean time are there any you watch on a regular basis?
Video Podcasts are a great way to keep up to date and learn so if there are any you would recommend then why not share them here in the comments section below; with thousands upon thousands available to us and with more added each day I’m sure there are going to be some real gems out there waiting to be discovered.

David Kelly - Hi Glynn.

I second the recommendations you’ve made. I’ve been a follower of PSU-TV and LR Killer tips for several years now. The format on PSU-TV is certainly a unique combination of humour & PS insight, and I don’t think anyone would be disappointed if they subscribed to this.

Matt K podcasts are more periodic but very insightful. I especially like his ‘before & after’ videos where he demonstrates his workflow approach to a certain shot. He also does a Photoshop Killer tips podcast too which gives little nuggets of useful PS techniques.

D-Town is a lot better now that it caters for Canonite’s such as I Seriously though, D-Town is another nugget of practical photographic tips - it just wish each episode was a bit longer!

As for others that I follow, here’s a few off the top of my head (sorry on pc at work, not home PC with iTunes on it):

- The Digital Photography Connection by Michael Rather. Michael has two video podcasts available (one for LR, one for PS) offering some user tips / techniques.

- Lensflare35 by Dave Warner. In a weekly (audio) podcast Dave (a US landscape photographer) interviews pro’s from different fields of photography (landscape, portrait, fine art etc), who talk about their approach to their work. Usually this is backed up with a short video on his website (lensflare35.com) where the selected guest show some of their portfolio and discusses the story behind the photographs. He also has another monthly podcast where a panel of guest discuss various photographic related issues in depth. They recently had something on the use of social media which I found very interesting. (note to self to dig out the link and post it).

- Martin Baily Photography. I’ve only just (yesterday) started to subscribe this podcast from Martin, a photographer based in Tokyo, but he give insight into his approach to and thoughts on photography. Looks like he blogs too (blog.martinbaileyphotography.com) but I’ve haven’t had time to review as yet.

Noel Hannan - Hi Glyn,

great post again, as usual… I didn’t realise the NAPP ones were free! Looks like I have a lot to catch up on - Catherine is going to have words with you!

But seriously, there is a wealth of information out there; you just have to know where to find it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction,

@David, I know the lensflare35 blog, its pretty good, but I shall be checking out the other ones you mentioned too.

Great thing this internet - and yes, our internet is back! Two days without! ISP’s…

Glyn - @David K…Don’t you just love the whole Podcast revolution; no longer is there nothing to watch on TV despite having Sky+ with it’s hundreds of channels of nothingness

David Kelly - @Glyn - first things first I gotta apologise. Periodically I keep ‘calling’ you Glynn instead of Glyn - it’s not excusable but when you work with someone called Glynn, it’s hard to break ‘habits’

I’ve calmed down a lot re: podcasts. I used to subscribe to a plethora of photographic related podcasts but then never got the time to watch / listen to not even half of them. So I’ve cut back to a chosen few that I enjoy and keep on top of them. However it is amazing what is available out there for nothing, zero, nadda. Name the topic and you’ve probably got a podcast out there for it.

On a side note Glyn, I’ve had a reminder pop up in my calendar for next Sunday (6th) - a photographic shoot-out which you initially posted about several months ago. Is this still going ahead? If so will you be posting more about this next week?

@Noel - Glad to hear you’re back in the land of the living, so to speak. I recall a few years ago when I lost my B/band service and had to go back to dial-up for a few days. It was like being back in the 1990′s!
So when are we going to meet up for that Cobra / curry you tweeted about?

Glyn - @David…Not a problem David, I’ve been called worse…lol
I know what you mean about keeping up with Podcasts; this is where having Apple TV has come in real handy to watch them on the main TV when there’s just nothing else on and I’m home alone whilst Mrs D is out

Re the 6th I’ve not blogged any more about that because of other things that are about to be announced. Lots of good stuff coming but yeah the thing that was planned for the 6th is being rescheduled.
