It’s #photoshopfriday…already

It’s been a busy week with photoshoots and editing; so busy in fact I completely forgot it was Friday:)

So, carrying on with the #photoshopfriday theme here is Part 2 of ‘The Debonaires’ edit where in this video I cover:

  • Adding Contrast
  • Dodging & Burning
  • Enhancing Details

For the original ‘Final edit’ I actually used a different technique to add contrast; in fact I used the very same technique as that in the recent Beauty Retouch when I added Tone & Contrast to the model’s skin. In this video I used a curves adjustment layer but making sure to change the blend mode of the Curve layer to ‘Luminosity’. Doing this stops the colours in the photograph becoming over saturated as happens when you add contrast. Anyway, you’ll see what I mean in the video so I’ll leave you to click ‘Play’…

tim wallace - Great tutorial mate, I love the technique for getting detail in, never knew that, very handy for me at times and will be looking at this with some of my work.

DaveT - Hi Glyn,

Another excellent tutorial.

Remember when you asked for feedback on your tutorial style? Well I like the way you outline what your going to cover in the video clip. It gives a clear outline to the viewer of what to expect. You may (video time permitting) like to consider also including a brief recap at the end of the clip, of what you have covered.

If you also include a couple of screen grabs of the key stages, you could say something to the effect of ‘ We started here, and by doing x we got to here, and doing x we got to here , and finally we finshed at this point. This technique is often used in the training world and acts to reinforce the main points you have made.

BTW No one else has commented but I’ve noticed you’ve changed your opening / closing ‘titles’ music in this video - was this a instrumental ditty by the band perchance?

Glyn - @David…Glad you like the tutorial mate and re the music, TBH the old track took this video to over the 10 minutes YouTube limit so I adopted this one…think I’ll stick with it for a while now too :)
